The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will report to the Co-Head of Core HR UK & Middle East and will act as a trusted advisor supporting approximately 500 employees.
The role is responsible for providing a strong HR service and support to both Shared Services business clients as well as supporting the HR agenda. Responsibility for the implementation of our policies, processes and procedures, this role is responsible for managing complex and sensitive day-do-day people management and employee relations issues. Drive improved service delivery and support the Co-Head with projects. The role requires an excellent knowledge of all core and operational HR related topics impacting the employee life cycle including Employee Relations and Immigration.
Areas of Accountability
- Delivery of the HR cycle
- Work proactively with the delegated client group on high volume and complex employee relations issues, including; immigration, employee exits, redundancy programmes
- Review and develop HR policies and procedures assisting the Co-Head of Core HR UK & Middle East as legislation changes and implement these across the business working with key stakeholders
- Provides analytical support from Oracle reports
- Support, influence, develop and coach people managers to manage employment issues
- Advise on absence management and occupational health issues, seeking specialist advice as appropriate
- Work closely with HR Specialists to help resolve queries which arise directly from the business
- Oversee all Oracle related activities for your clients
- Management of ER matters whilst keeping senior colleagues appraised
- Advise line managers on probation, absence management, performance and management issues
- Advise your client groups on the impact of employee contract amendments and ensure all amendments are approved in accordance with delegated authority
- Coach, guide and mentor line managers and senior leaders in their HR leadership functions and responsibilities.
- Build, develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to understand current HR priorities and associated risks
- Support Line Managers with the annual compensation process guidelines; guide managers on how to distribute salary and bonus across their business areas
Skills / Experience
- Experience as a HRBP with leadership capability
- Experience of conducting complex investigations and managing significant employee relations challenges
- Solid understanding of UK employment law
- Solid understanding of UK Immigration Law
- Highly commercial
- Proven ability to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with leaders at all levels
- High levels of trust, humility and integrity
- Excellent communication skills: written and verbal, including a high level of attention to detail
Professional/Technical Skills
- Excellent technology skills, specifically Oracle, Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Power Point
- Strong knowledge and understanding of UK Employment and Immigration Law
- Be alert to Conduct Risk, specifically the risk of harm to client interests, market integrity and/or competition in financial markets due to inappropriate practices or behaviours across the firm
- CIPD qualified
- Effective interpersonal skills, ability to influence others and handle conflict
- Proven experience and exposure in handling sensitive employee relations and dismissal situations
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative, is a good team player
- Has an eye for detail and whilst aligning with policy is able to use judgment

You will be responsible for the in-life management of SAP HR and ServiceNow, covering solution design, build, and issue management, seeking to optimise the cost to serve and the employee experience. You will work closely with the People Services, People Analytics and IT teams in developing and delivering our HR Data Management strategy, being accountable for all in-life functionality. As part of in-life management, you will play a key role in ensuring Thames Water continues to fully exploit and benefit from future systems developments, working across Thames Water, HR, vendors and other stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing as an HR Systems Specialist
- Act as SAP HR and ServiceNow ‘Super User’ for our People systems.
- Provide technical expertise and analytical support in the administration, implementation and execution of all information, business processes and system requirements related to the People Function
- Ensure Incident and change requirements, including expected outcomes, are clearly documented
- Use an agile methodology to manage the deployment of changes /update releases, including testing pre and post releases · Respond to system user queries, and train People, Managers and employees on system use
- Act as the key interface between the People Systems team and Digital, engaging regularly on requirements and plans for delivery
- Contribute to the development of a prioritised plan (based on business value and impact) for People service improvement across the People processes, policies, systems and contact channels
- Lead, define and deliver systems improvements and initiatives to enhance service performance and employee experience
- Develop communications and tools to embed change projects as necessary, working in partnership with the wider People community, communication team and business managers, and seeking feedback to drive continuous improvement
- Work closely with the People Analytics team to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our People data by implementing preventative system controls and mechanisms to minimise data errors
- Identify root causes of data errors, resolving system-generated issues promptly and implementing controls to prevent recurrence
- Support the ongoing development of SAP HR system functionality and integration with other systems used, e.g. ServiceNow, SABA, etc., maximising automation as much as possible
Base location: Reading - Hybrid
Working pattern: 36 Hours
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Proven working experience as an HRIS Analyst or HR Data Analyst
- Strong working knowledge of administering SAP HR / HCM
- Demonstrable experience of implementing system changes or upgrades from requirement gathering through to post-implementation validation
- Ability to swiftly troubleshoot issues and errors
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to challenge and influence new ways of working with differing stakeholders
- Highly organised and responsive, with the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
- Customer-oriented
- Agile project methodology experience
- Comfortable with Excel formulae, Macros and VBA
- Working knowledge/experience of implementing and or administering SuccessFactors modules
- Working knowledge/experience of administering ServiceNow HR
