Full Job Description
Legal & General is seeking an Insurance Claims Assessor to join our
team in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. You will be responsible for
evaluating and processing insurance claims, ensuring fair and timely
resolution for our customers. This role requires strong analytical
skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer
service.

Responsibilities:
- Receive and register new insurance claims.
- Gather all necessary information related to the claim, including policy details, reports, and documentation.
- Assess the validity of claims based on policy terms and conditions.
- Investigate complex or suspicious claims as required.
- Determine the appropriate settlement amount or course of action for claims.
- Communicate with policyholders, third parties, and external professionals (e.g., doctors, loss adjusters).
- Negotiate settlements where appropriate.
- Process claim payments accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of all claim activities and decisions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Identify potential fraud and escalate as necessary.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints related to claims.
- Work towards meeting individual and team targets for claim handling efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in training and development to enhance knowledge of insurance products and claims processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve claims handling processes.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in insurance claims handling or a related financial services role is beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex policy wording.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
- Empathy and ability to handle sensitive customer situations.
- Proficiency in using claims management systems and standard office software.
- Knowledge of relevant insurance regulations (e.g., FCA rules) is a plus.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CII) are desirable.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
