Banking Relationship Manager - Barclays - Birmingham

Barclays is seeking an experienced and client-focused Banking Relationship Manager to join our team in Birmingham, focusing on serving small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) or Corporate clients. As a Relationship Manager, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of business clients, deepening existing relationships, identifying their financial needs, and providing tailored banking and financial solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of SME or Corporate banking clients, acting as their primary point of contact at Barclays.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients and key decision-makers.
  • Understand clients' businesses, industries, and financial needs.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional banking products and services (e.g., lending, treasury solutions, trade finance, wealth management referrals).
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the revenue and profitability of the client portfolio.
  • Conduct regular client reviews and meetings to assess needs and provide updates.
  • Collaborate with product specialists and internal teams to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Prepare credit applications and proposals for lending facilities, ensuring compliance with credit policies.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with clients.
  • Monitor client financial performance and risk profile.
  • Ensure compliance with all banking regulations, policies, and procedures (including KYC/AML).
  • Achieve and exceed individual and team revenue targets.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in the CRM system.
  • Prepare regular reports on portfolio performance and pipeline.
  • Stay updated on market trends and economic conditions affecting clients.
  • Attend industry events and network to build relationships and identify prospects.
  • Manage time and priorities effectively to serve the client portfolio.
  • Be accountable for the financial performance and risk management of the assigned portfolio.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to the client portfolio.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients.
  • Handle client inquiries and resolve issues promptly, escalating as needed.
  • Proactively seek client feedback.
  • Develop strong understanding of Barclays' product offerings for businesses.
  • Prepare financial analysis and projections for client proposals.
  • Ensure data privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Be knowledgeable about competitor offerings.
  • Prepare for and participate in performance reviews.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating Barclays' values.
  • Support the onboarding process for new clients.
  • Ensure compliance with internal audit requirements.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to client management.
  • Develop strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Understand the specific challenges faced by businesses in the Birmingham region.
  • Provide insights to product development teams based on client feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with conduct risk requirements.
  • Manage client complaints in accordance with policy.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Relationship Manager or in a similar client-facing role within the banking or financial services industry, preferably with business clients (SME or Corporate).
  • Strong understanding of banking products and services for businesses.
  • Experience in lending and credit analysis is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to understand client businesses and financial needs.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Commercial acumen and results orientation.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of clients effectively.
  • Proficiency in using CRM systems and financial software.
